THE Pharmacy Council of NSW is seeking expressions of interest to undertake a Commissioned Research Project into pharmacy compounding of medicines.
The move follows an increasing number of notifications that involve compounding within community pharmacies.
"The Council wishes to increase its understanding of the extent of current compounding practice in NSW, and to assist it in this aim, is seeking expressions of interest from persons willing to undertake research in this area," according to a statement issued yesterday.
The commissioned project seeks to investigate compounding services performed and provided by Australian community pharmacies.
The Council is seeking a detailed analysis that explores the scope of current compounding services, incentives, compliance with legislation and practice standards, and a comparison of the services provided and trends between various states and territories.
A comparison of models of compounding services offered in Australia and overseas is also sought, as well as a review of training available for compounding.
Applications to undertake the research must be submitted by 28 Feb, with the Council envisaging the contract will commence on 03 Apr and be completed by 30 Nov.
