EAGLE Natural Health has launched a new consumer campaign urging Australians to seek advice from trained health professionals before taking supplements.
More than a quarter of Aussies take at least one dietary supplement, and 24% of those use three or more, the company said.
Naturopath and Eagle Natural Health education manager, Teneille Newton, said pharmacists and naturopaths have an opportunity to build trusted relationships with their clients through consultations with practitioner-only supplements.
"Australians are conscious consumers and trust the advice of health professionals regarding the effectiveness and quality of products they're putting into their bodies," Newton said.
"Face to face consultations with clients -- even brief ones in store - give healthcare practitioners the opportunity to discuss existing conditions -- such as pregnancy -- as well as prescription medication that may clash with some supplements."
Practitioner-only products enhance pharmacists' positioning as a trusted resource for people who want to make a positive change to their health, she added.

Eagle Natural Health does not appear to be associated with Chinese firm Eagle Health, which late last month lodged a prospectus with the Australian Stock Exchange for a public float to raise $30m.
