THE University of Sydney has announced the launch of a new "Pharmacy Leaders Program" which is being offered for the first time ever during 2019.
Aiming to give pharmacy students the opportunity to extend their experience beyond the classroom and develop leadership skills, the scheme aspires to develop pharmacists as "influential global citizens and leaders".
"Our curriculum embeds in our students a depth of disciplinary expertise, cultural competence, interdisciplinary effectiveness and an integrated professional, ethical and personal identity," said Associate Professor Nial Wheate, the faculty's program director of undergraduate pharmacy.
The Pharmacy Leaders Program is open to all undergraduate and postgraduate course work pharmacy students, and will complement (but be separate from) the training they receive as part of their degree.
Wheate said the program comprised an online unit of study, two seminars and a course, with participants able to choose from a variety of activities such as attending conferences and participating in research programs, through to community volunteering, visiting schools or representing peers on student or school committees.
"We are confident that the program will help to shape the profession's future leaders," he said.
