UNIVERSITY life can be expensive, and getting a job that gives you valuable experience in your chosen field can be beneficial.
However, it is best not to follow the example of Welsh pharmacy student, Kevin John, who ended up on the wrong side of the law after setting up his own back-alley pharmacy.
The 22-year-old University of Leicester undergraduate was busted in Newport dealing heroin and crack cocaine.
John attempted to flee the scene on a bicycle when police busted his illicit operation on 17 Sep 2021, but he was tackled to the ground.
Cardiff Crown Court heard the student was in possession of drugs with a street value of $3,100 and about $1,750 in cash at the time of the arrest.
The Court was told John had been studying for a pharmacy degree in Leicester prior to being caught dealing drugs.
The 22-year-old defendant pleaded guilty to charges of possession with intent to supply and possession of cannabis.
Sentencing John to 29 months behind bars the Judge noted that the student had been dealing to fund his efforts to become a pharmacist.
