QUEENSLAND patients should not see fee increases at GP visits, says the Pharmacy Guild, following the end of the payroll tax stoush (PD 27 Jan).
The Guild's Queensland branch President, Chris Owen (pictured), said: "We welcome the decision made on 08 Feb by the Treasurer, Cameron Dick, ending the GPs ongoing threat of increasing patient fees due to Queensland's payroll tax law.
"The government's decision to implement a payroll tax holiday will mean most of the tax savings will go to large corporate medical practices, not your smaller, local general practitioners.
"The Guild has long supported a model of care where practitioners own practices not large corporate interests," Owen added.
"We are pleased the government has not wavered and changed the payroll tax laws but allowed time for GPs to comply.
"We look forward to seeing no patient fee increases until mid-2025.
"This solution maintains a level playing field for the many hard-working professionals, like dentists, physios, chiropractors and community pharmacies who are complying with the legislation and paying their fair share," Owen said.
