Two year authorisation for Medicines Australia conduct code.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has just announced authorisation of edition 17 of the Medicines Australia Code of Conduct.
However the approval comes with a request that Medicines Australia members "improve transparency of payments and sponsorship" to individual healthcare professionals.
The two year authorisation is in contrast to the five years sought by Medicines Australia, with the ACCC saying it believes that "remaining issues associated with a framework for individual disclosure can be substantially addressed in the next 12 to 18 months and an amended Code implemented by early 2015".
ACCC Commissioner Sarah Court said that "improving transparency around payments to individual doctors will play an important role in promoting community confidence in the integrity of these payments to healthcare professionals".
