Generic Medicines Industry Association urges pharmacies to become advocates.
The Generic Medicines Industry Association has just launched a major campaign against further changes to the PBS, lobbying parliamentarians and writing an open letter to all pharmacies in Australia concerning the “state of health of the generic medicines industry”.
GMiA is asking for pharmacist support “to ensure the truth about our industry is heard,” with the letter highlighting the “vital role that the generics medicines industry plays in keeping the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme cost effective and able to provide equitable access to vital medicines for all Australians”.
The letter warns that Federal politicians may soon be pressured into policies that could permanently damage the Australian pharmaceutical industry, with accelerated price disclosure having “a devastating impact on our sector”.
“As custodians of the PBS, pharmacists are in an ideal position to advocate against these changes, and in support of the industry that facilitates the PBS,” GMiA says.
