PBPA to cease operations as part of streamlined PBS process.
The Pharmaceutical Benefits Pricing Authority (PBPA) will cease to be as of 01 Apr in a streamlined Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) pricing process.
The Department of Health said the new process would reduce time taken to list medicines on the PBS and improve access.
The cessation of the PBPA would further streamline the listing processes as it would allow an agreement on price to be reached in shorter timeframes, once medicines were approved by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC), cutting four weeks from the listing process, the Department said.
Once the PBPA ceased to be, sponsors would be required to provide cost of goods information at time of submission, but there would be a transition period for such arrangements.
