Novartis’ meningitis B vaccine,
Bexsero, has received Breakthrough
Therapy designation in the United
States from the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA).
The designation means the FDA
would expedite the development
and review of the drug, the
organisation said.
Novartis said it could be applying
for US licensure of the drug in the
second quarter of this year, with
timing depending upon the FDA
guidance.
Novartis’ vaccine has been
recommended for inclusion on
the UK’s National Immunisation
Program (PD 25 Mar) and has been
on sale in Australia through private
prescription since early March (PD
