E-health getting close
January 12, 2011

THE Health Department has
welcomed the high numbers of
applications it received from groups
wanting to be involved in the second
wave of e-health implementation
sites, saying the response reflected
“keen interest” in getting
personally controlled electronic
health records up and running.
Over 90 applications from
healthcare organisations, medical
professional groups as well as
national and regional industry were
lodged for the second wave, with
the period for submission now closed.
The second round of e-health
sites will aim to expand on
e-health infrastructure and will
cover situations for health
consumers, general practitioners,
Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islanders, pharmacies, hospitals
and aged-care homes.
“We have been listening intently
to the ideas of those who need and
deliver health care, and we will
work closely with technology creators
to ensure a smooth transition to ehealth,”
said the Minister for
Health and Ageing, Nicola Roxon.
