Association and the Royal
Australian and NZ College of
Ophthalmologists says they strongly
disagree with this month’s
rescheduling of chloramphenical
eye drops from prescription-only to
S3, with RANZCO President Dr
Richard Stawell saying the
medicine should be reserved for
bacterial eye infections.
“Pharmacists have not been
trained to be competent in
diagnosing eye disease and do not
have the appropriate equipment to
properly examine an eye,” he said.
“It is very important that it is not
