Health Ministers say Medsafe and TGA will still work together.
Health Minister Peter Dutton and New Zealand Minister of Health Jonathan Coleman have said both governments will abandon efforts to establish a joint therapeutic goods regulator.
The decision to cease work on the Australia New Zealand Therapeutic Products Agency (ANZTPA) came following a review of progress and assessment of costs and benefits, the joint statement said.
However, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and the Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Authority (Medsafe) would continue to work together on trans-Tasman regulatory harmonisation activity that was of potential value to both countries, the Ministers said.
“These include the development of a new information sharing agreement and formalising mutual recognition of good manufacturing practice audits.”
The Ministers said each country remained open to future cooperation activities.
