HEALTHY obsession?
A 51-year old British woman,
Elsie Campbell’s life was saved
because of her strange addiction
to lettuce.
“I woke up one day and
suddenly fancied some lettuce,”
said Campbell, who added that
in the following weeks and
months her need for greens was
so great that she was polishing
off around four lettuces per day.
“I’d eat a whole iceberg lettuce
at work, and sit on the bus on
the way home thinking about
eating more and more,” she said.
At the peak of her addiction
her husband, a research scientist,
took it upon himself to uncover
what nutrients lettuce contained
that Elsie could be lacking.
He found that a particular
nutrient in the leafy green is
often absent in breast cancer
sufferers, and insisted she see a
doctor.
Shortly after Elsie was
diagnosed with breast cancer.
Following lump removal
surgery and months of treatment
Elsie is now cancer free, and
admits that these days she has
little desire for a crisp iceberg.
SURPRISE surgery.
An Indian farmer and father of
two got quite a shock after he
awoke from a hernia operation
to discover he had in fact
undergone a hysterectomy.
The farmer was admitted to
hospital suffering severe
stomach pains, and doctors,
recognising the symptoms of
hernia decided to do some
exploratory surgery to find out
the exact cause.
Doctors did find a hernia sac,
but were surprised to find that it
did not contain the usual large
and small intestines, but rather
quite a developed uterus, both
ovaries, fallopian tubes, a cervix
and under-developed vaginal
tissue.
Despite the shock, doctors say
the man is recovering well and in
good spirits.
