EU’s 2011 apps
December 22, 2010
THE European Medicines Agency
has forecast it will process a ‘stable
number’ of applications for
medication marketing approvals in
2011, including 40 applications for
new medicines for human use, 12
orphan medicines and 42 generic
drug applications.
The schedule is accompanied
with a 23% budget increase to
€208.9 million (around
AU$274.3m) made up of fee
revenue, an EU contribution and a
special EU orphan medicines fund.
MEANWHILE the Agency has
also settled on a 2015 Road Map
which will supersede the 2005-
2010 Road Map, and which will
focus on the delivery of the EMA’s
core business, as well as three
priority areas: strengthening the
Agency’s role in addressing public
health needs, facilitating access to
medicines, and optimising safe use
of medicines.
The 2015 Road Map will be
published in January 2011.
