Contact lens recall

THE Therapeutic Goods Administration is publicising an urgent consumer-level recall of Avaira Toric Contact Lenses. Specific lots of the contact lenses are being recalled by the sponsor CooperVision Australia Pty Ltd, after the company received complaints of “temporary hazy or blurry vision and discomfort from wearers”. The recall is part of a global voluntary recall of specific lots of the product, after laboratory tests found the symptoms were caused by a small amount of residue on the lenses. In all reported cases so far the symptoms were temporary and reversed after the contact lenses were removed, with no reports of permanent eye damage. The CooperVision website at www.coopervision.com has details of the specific lot numbers affected and consumers concerned about the products can also call the company’s customer service line on 1800 722 310.
