Blackmores is set to spread its reach into Indonesia, with the launch of a new joint venture with Kalbe Farma, one of the largest health care companies in South East Asia.
CEO Christine Holgate announced the pact about twelve months ago, and has now confirmed the rollout of Blackmores products across Kalbe's extensive distribution network in Indonesia.
She said the launch would initially involve eight products, with 25 in market by the end of the year, according to the Australian.
"It is quite a complex registration process in Indonesia compared with Australia," she added.
"But we are used to the different Asian markets where it can take six months to a year to get registered."
Holgate said Blackmores chose Kalbe as business partner because it was a major supplier of nutritional supplements in Indonesia.
"It's a market worth around $2 billion in Indonesia and it's growing really fast," she said.
"The country has one of the fastest growing middle classes in the world and it's predicted to be the third biggest economy in the world by 2030."
Kalbe's training processes and its strong representation in shopping centres throughout Indonesia add significant weight to the partnership with Indonesians increasingly interested in more Western versions of natural health products.
Holgate said only 2% of Australia's international trade was done with Indonesia and added there were business opportunities in areas such as health, education and financial services.
