THE World Self Medication Industry has opened registrations for its upcoming General Assembly 2017 (WSMIGA) which will be held in Sydney from 17-19 Oct 2017.
The event is themed 'The Economic Value of Self Care,' with key speakers including a number of prominent Australian pharmacists.
The WSMI is the peak body representing the global non-prescription medicines sector, embracing regional and national industry associations as well as manufacturers and distributors.
Taking place at Sydney's new International Convention Centre, the General Assembly is only held once every four years and is being jointly hosted by the Australian and New Zealand Self Medication Industry associations.
"The event attracts industry stakeholders, thought leaders, regulators, academics and representatives of the self-medication industry from around the globe," ASMI said.
The two-day conference will feature five themed sessions tackling the key drivers of self-care and the policy changes required to improve health care systems.
Presenters include Paul Sinclair, president of the community pharmacy section of the International Pharmaceutical Federation, as well as Professor Charlie Benrimoj from the Graduate School of Health at University of Technology Sydney.
International participants will describe the situation in Japan, the USA, Mexico, NZ and Canada.
The conference concludes with a Regulators' Forum hosted by Therapeutic Goods Administration chief John Skerritt, bringing together regulators from across the globe to discuss issues unique to the regulation of non-prescription medicines.
ASMI's annual Diamond Awards will also form part of the congress, with registration details and earlybird discounts now available online at wsmiga2017.com.
