BIOGLAN'S popular children's vitamin product Vita Gummies has been found to have mislabelled the sugar and carbohydrate content of their product, putting children's teeth (and gums) at risk, according to an article in the online public health watchdog The Conversation.
"In our opinion, these products are unhealthy and exploitative," said the article from the University (Monash and UNSW) and Victorian Government sponsored site.
"Their high sugar content may appeal to young children, but they're not a good introduction to a healthy diet," the authors claimed.
The Bioglan website apparently states that an average serving is two gummies (5.6g), which the formulation states have 3g sugar (54% by weight).
"They also stated there was 3mg of sugar per 100g of product which is clearly mislabelled; 100g of product must contain 54g of sugar, not 3mg," the article stated.
"Sugars provide food for the bacteria that dissolve tooth enamel...as sugar consumption increases, so do cavities," the report continued.
