ACCOLADES and accomplishment denoted last weekend's Society of Hospital Pharmacists (SHPA) annual conference, Medicines Management 2017, described by the organisation as celebrating a 'landmark year'.
Nearly 1,100 delegates graced Sydney's International Conference Centre each day of the event, which saw more than 200 posters presented and challenging plenary sessions probe the short and mid-term future of a profession under constant evolution: 24/7 pharmacy, embedding research into clinical pharmacy practice, the importance of cultural competency and new thinking on the 'millennial mindset'.
The opening of Advancing Practice (PD Mon) was a major highlight along with the launch of the SHPA Mentoring Program (PD yesterday).
Award winners this year were:
* Best oral presenter: Janelle Penno
* Best first time poster presenter: Michelle Hooper
* Best poster presenter: Sarah Dinh
* Best first time oral presenter: Aimee Petersen
* Best technician poster presenter: Ellisha Vas
* Best technician oral presenter: Aoife Waldron
* People's choice award for best poster: Emily Diprose
In closing Australia's largest annual scientific pharmacy conference yesterday, MM2017 Scientific Program Committee chair Natalie Tasker passed the baton to Dr Michael Barras who will oversee Medicines Management 2018 (MM2018), the 44th SHPA National Conference which will take place in Brisbane 22-25 Nov next year.
Barras, who was recipient of the 2017 SHPA Medal of Merit (PD yesterday), marked the occasion by opening a Facebook poll through which Society members can suggest themes for MM2018, and 'like' others, to inform a shortlist which will feed into conference planning.
