VETERANS' Medicines Advice and Therapeutics Education Services (Veterans' MATES) has issued guidance around the use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).
MATES says that although a short course of a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) can be very effective for relieving reflux/heartburn symptoms, veterans who have been taking a proton pump inhibitor for longer than eight weeks, should ask their GP whether they still need it.
