CERVICAL cancer may become a rare disease in Australia within just two years and be so uncommon by 2028 it will be deemed eliminated as a public health problem for the first time anywhere in the world, according to research published in the Lancet Public Health Journal.
The prediction attributes the result to the 2008 introduction of the national human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination program for schoolchildren, as well as the 1991 pap smear scheme.
