HEALTH Minister Greg Hunt has announced a drop in co-payments for some products supplied under the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) from 01 Dec.
For blood glucose test strips and urine test strips costs to registered NDSS participants will drop for all people without a concession card, while insulin pump infusion sets and reservoirs will also become cheaper for some patients.
Co-payments for insulin syringes will continue to be subsidised by State or Territory Governments.
Hunt said over 600,000 Australians with diabetes will save up to $126 per year on the cost of already subsidised items.
Some changes will also be made to certain insulin syringes and some blood glucose test strips on the list of products available on the NDSS.
However during a transition period from 01 Dec-28 Feb patients may be able to purchase existing brands being removed from the NDSS subsidised list.
NDSS registrants will be eligible to receive a free blood glucose meter associated with their preferred new brand of blood glucose test strips - for more info see ndss.com.au.
