THE Government's National Immunisation Program (NIP) has secured more than 6 million doses of influenza vaccine to ensure Australians most at risk during this year's flu season are able to access free influenza immunisation.
Those eligible for a free flu shot under the NIP are people 65 years and over (PD Fri), pregnant women, those with chronic conditions and, for the first time, all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People from six months of age.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and adolescents aged 5-14 years of age will now also have free access to the flu vaccine.
Four different quadrivalent influenza vaccine brands are being supplied this year for people aged under 65 - Afluria Quad (Seqirus), Flu Quadri and Flu Quadri Junior (Sanofi) and Fluarix Tetra (GSK), with enhanced trivalent vaccine Fluad (Seqirus) available for over 65s - the four-times potency Fluzone is available on private script.
