TASMANIANS took out two of the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia's (SHPA's) top awards at the organisation's Virtual Congress over the weekend.
Having scooped the Tasmanian Branch's title, Phil Tibbet was named the 2020 SHPA Early Career Pharmacist of the Year, for his "outstanding leadership demonstrated in managing a clinical service leading up to and during the COVID-19 outbreak, ahead of Racha Dabliz (NSW), Adam Livori (Victoria), Samantha Pringle (ACT) and Claire Kendrick (Western Australia).
Fellow Tasmanian, Liza D'Ettorre, claimed the 2020 SHPA Technician of the Year Award, for her work in the procurement, storage, distribution and reporting of medicines recognised as crucial in a year where supply and distribution was paramount.
Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital Medication Safety Pharmacist, Mika Varitimos, was named as the SHPA 2020 Resident of the Year.
The SHPA Hospital Team Innovation of the Year honour was awarded to the Western Australia Country Health Service Telechemotherapy Cancer Team.
Throughout the year the WA-based team overcame significant barriers to delivering chemotherapy services in the Kimberley, Pilbara and Wheatbelt.
Over the course of the congress the recipients of the 2020 Fred J Boyd Awards, Professor Jeff Hughes, SHPA Medal of Merit winner, Vaughn Eaton, and 2020 Australian Clinical Pharmacy Award recipient, Dr Eric Tong, delivered inspirational orations.
The Society also celebrated the induction of Branko Radojkovic, Courtney Munro, John Coutsouvelis and Tom Chynoweth as SHPA fellows over the weekend.
