THE Advertising Complaints Resolution Panel determined 93 advertising complaints during the first half of 2011, of which 92 were found to be justified, according to an update from the Complementary Medicine Group today. The most frequent breaches included promotion of therapeutic goods not entered in the Register; ads containing unverified, incorrect and unbalanced statements and claims; advertisements which are misleading directly or by implication; those which abuse the trust or exploit the lack of knowledge of consumers or contain language which could bring about fear or distress; and advertising which contains representations that products are safe, harmless or free of side-effects.
