A Stakeholder Forum for the
current Post-Market Review of PBS
Medicines Used to Treat Asthma in
Children will be held in Canberra on
18 November 2013.
It’s the next stage in the review,
which has been established to
ensure the most appropriate
management of children with
asthma in clinical practice.
In 2011 the Paediatric Medicines
Advisory Group found that
40% of children supplied with
combination inhalers had not first
been prescribed a single ingredient
product, which is contrary to
current asthma management
guidelines.
Medicines included in the review
are salmeterol with fluticasone,
eformoterol with budesonide,
beclomethasone diproprionate,
ciclesonide, sodium cromoglycate
and nedocromil sodium,
montelukast, salmeterol and
eformoterol.
Next month’s forum follows the
solicitation of submissions, and
will give stakeholders a further
opportunity to contribute to the
review.
All pharmaceutical sponsors of
asthma medicines and peak bodies
as well as individual clinicians and
consumers who have provided
submissions to the review have
been invited to participate.
