Be wise, immunise

The Ministry of Health of New Zealand said a recent measles outbreak linked to a Sydney dance festival is a strong reminder for people to get immunised. Eleven cases of measles have been confirmed, linked to the World Supremacy Battleground hip hop competition in Sydney. As of 2 January, there was one case in Auckland and 10 cases from two extended families in Turangi/ Taupo. Acting deputy director of public health Dr Harriette Carr said it was possible more cases could occur. “People are infectious five days before symptoms develop to five days after the onset of a rash. Immunisation is the single most effective measure someone can take to protect themselves and their family”.
