COMMONWEALTH Department of Health (DoH) Secretary, Glenys Beauchamp, will stepdown from the position on Fri (PD breaking news).
Both the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia and the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, praised Beauchamp's leadership of the Department over course of her 28 months in charge, and throughout her 21 years in the Australian Public Service.
In a statement PSA National President, Dr Chris Freeman, thanked Beuachamp for her contribution to healthcare.
"Over her distinguished career, Beauchamp has been an advocate for the community and in her role leading the Department of Health has been dedicated to improving health care and outcomes," he said.
Guild National President, George Tambassis, described Beauchamp as an outstanding leader.
"Our dealings with her have shown Beauchamp to be totally committed to the principle of universal health care and to ensuring that all Australians have equitable access to the medicines they need," he said.
"She has been instrumental in driving the availability of funding for many medicines and also has been a figurehead in pushing for more mental health services to be provided to communities across all of Australia."
Australia's Chief Medical Officer, Professor Brendan Murphy, has been recommended as Beauchamp's successor.
