BRITISH pharmacy chain Boots
is facing an official probe over
claims it is abusing a scheme
which provides reimbursement for
Medicine Use Reviews (MURs).
According to an investigation by
the Guardian newspaper, the chain
has urged managers to review at
least 400 people per store - the cap
at which the £28 per consultation
cuts off.
MURs see pharmacist counsel
patients about how to manage
their medicines including possible
side effects, with the General
Pharmaceutical Council confirming
it was seeking more information on
the matter.
A survey by the UK Pharmacists’
Defence Association reportedly
found some Boots staff saying
they had been “pressurised into
conducting MURs whether or not
patients are eligible to receive the
service”.
In 2014/15 MURs cost the
National Health Service £66.5m.The above article was sent to subscribers in Pharmacy Daily's issue from 20 Apr 16 To see the full newsletter, see the embedded issue below or CLICK HERE to download Pharmacy Daily from 20 Apr 16
