AUTHORITIES in the UK have issued an alert to patients on blood thinners who use the Roche CoaguChek device to test their blood clotting function, advising them to check their test strips.
Roche says the CoaguChek XS Pt Test, CoaguChekPT Test and CoaguCHek XS PT RST test strips may give inaccurate INR results, meaning patients over or under-dose with anticoagulant drugs.
The UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has estimated more than 125,000 test strip packs have been affected, and anyone whose test strip reading is above 4.5 INR is being advised to discuss the results with a healthcare professional.
