PHARMACISTS, as members of a collaborative care team, can play an important role in depression screening services, according to lead author of the Pain study Jeffery F. Scherrer, reported in the US Pharmacy Times. He was commenting on the US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) updated recommendations for depression screening in adults. Effective screening can ultimately help reduce or eliminate depression symptoms, lower the need for related health care services, and improve the health of pregnant or postpartum patients with depression, the USPSTF said. Beyond medication reviews, pharmacists’ accessibility can enable early symptom recognition, Scherrer explained.
