COP an eyeful of this - an upcoming auction in New Zealand features a unique collection of glass eyes. The ophthalmological assortment (pictured) will go up for sale today, along with lenses, specialist medical equipment and a vintage eye chart.
The items previously belonged to two eye doctors based at the University of Otago Medical School in Dunedin.
Forget supplements - some day we may get all the goodness we need from "super nutritious pizza" according to a senior executive from Abbott Nutrition.
Dan Schmitz told Fairfax Media his work leads him to believe that rather than getting people to eat more vegies it may be possible to make a specially engineered pizza.
Schmitz is Abbott Nutrition's director of user experience and R&D, with responsibility for "therapeutic nutrition" products such as Glucerna which helps diabetics manage blood sugar levels, and Ensure, a shake to supply nutrients to patients recovering from surgery.
While the special pizza may be some way off, Schmitz said there was some promise in 3D-printed food personalised to individual dietary requirements - such as a "printed pancake" with extra iron for someone with low haemoglobin.
