THERE are lessons in life that should never need to be learnt, particularly when it comes to stealing money from vulnerable patients.
Sadly, the opportunity to take advantage of an elderly patient was too much for British aged care worker, Ruth Fort, who gained access to a client's debit card and pin number.
Fort used the pensioner's money to fund shopping sprees and a holiday to Mexico in 2018.
However, her crimes came to an end after her husband went to the police after hearing her mumbling about money in her sleep and finding the patient's card in his wife's purse.
"I loved Ruth deeply, but I could not ignore what she had done," he said.
The 61-year-old was initially given a 16-month suspended sentence, but after breaching conditions set by the presiding magistrate twice, she is now facing the possibility of jail time if she fails to comply again.
