Authorities in Ireland have
launched a major investigation
into how an elderly cancer patient
was carried up to 25km in the
baggage compartment of a coach.
Transport firm Bus Eirann is
under fire for the incident, which
apparently happened after the
woman had received treatment
for cancer in the city of Galway
and was travelling home to
Ballyvaughan in County Clare.
According to the BBC, as she
climbed into the compartment to
retrieve her bag upon arrival the
coach moved off, and she wasn’t
discovered until the next stop.
more than half of teenagers may
be sleep deprived, according to
researchers at Oxford University
in the UK.
Russell Foster, who’s
Oxford’s Professor of Circadian
Neuroscience, cited a range of
influences including changing
hormones along with the massive
boom in Facebook, Twitter
and electronic gaming as key
contributors.
“The data that’s emerging
suggests that these computer
screens and gaming devices may
well have a big effect in increasing
levels of alertness.
“That will make it harder to get
to sleep after you’ve stopped
playing,” Foster said.
In the case of teenagers, the
problem is worse because “your
biologically programmed to go to
bed late and get up late,” he said.
