The US Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) is working
with The Drug Supply Chain
Security Act, signed into law last
November, to create a system that
will help identify and trace certain
prescription drugs as they are
distributed within the US.
The system will provide a history
of the transactions involving each
product, the ultimate goal being to
identify each individual prescription
drug package to enable rapid
verification of the legitimacy of the
product.
If a counterfeit or other harmful
drug is discovered, the FDA can
readily notify patients, health care
professionals, hospitals and others
about the public health risk. The above article was sent to subscribers in Pharmacy Daily's issue from 22 Apr 14 To see the full newsletter, see the embedded issue below or CLICK HERE to download Pharmacy Daily from 22 Apr 14
