Eylea in Australia

BAYER’S Eylea (aflibercept) has been approved for the treatment of neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in Australia by the TGA. Age-related Macular Degeneration is a degenerative disease of the retina that causes progressive, painless loss of central vision and at present it is the leading cause of blindness in the country, with wet AMD being its most severe form. It is estimated that in 2010, there were over one million Australians with AMD, with one in seven people over the age of 50 affected. Eylea is the first recombinant fusion protein approved to treat wet AMD.
