THE European Medicines Agency
(EMA) and European Commission
(EC) are introducing new
regulations to help protect patients
from falsified medicines.
The regulation, published in the
Official Journal of the European
Union introduces two safety
features: a unique identifier (a
2-dimension barcode) and an anti-tampering
device, to be placed on
packaging of most medicines.
Marketing-authorisation holders
are required to place the safety
features on the packaging of most
prescription medicines and certain
non-prescription medicines no later
