Pharmacy Daily | GMiA hails Senate report

THE Generic Medicines Industry Association has welcomed the Senate Committee report into the govt’s administration of the PBS (PD yesterday) - and in particular comments made by one of the committee members, Victorian Greens Senator Richard Di Natale. During the tabling of the report in the Senate, Di Natali stressed that “one of the critical things that needs to happen is that generic medication needs to be made available without delay when patents expire on originator medications”. GMiA said the strong criticism of the Cabinet approval policy for new PBS listings reflected “broad community concerns” with over 50 submissions calling on the government to reverse the move. The report described the policy as a “false economy” and said that the govt could leverage far more significant savings from already existing PBS reforms. As confirmed yesteday, PM Julia Gillard has undertaken to resolve the concerns by the end of Sep.
