NSW branch vice president Denis
Leahy has said in forefront that
the figures provided by the Sydney
Medically Supervised Injecting
Centre that showed a reduction in
visits for Oxycontin injections per
week (PD 16 Jul) were grounds for
cautious optimism but that it was
too early to tell what the overall
impact would be.
“It is certainly a dramatic drop,

more data on across-the-board
needle exchange figures, preferably
comparing this June with last June,
so that we know what impact the
Oxycontin change is having on total
use.”
