NEW Zealand Medicines and
Medical Devices Safety Authority
(MEDSAFE) is considering tighter
controls around the distribution
and use of alcohol-based hand
sanitisers, according to a report in
stuff.co.nz.
With some 673 calls to the
Poisons Centre concerning people
swallowing alcohol-based hand
sanitiser in the past five years,
and the majority being children,
MEDSAFE has been asked to make
it mandatory for hand sanitisers
containing more than 20% alcohol
to be mounted on walls to reduce
the risk to children.
The call came from Auckland man
Lance Gravatt, who owns a small
pharmaceutical company.
MEDSAFE will consider Gravatt’s
submission and a second
submission of unknown origin at its
meeting on 03 May.The above article was sent to subscribers in Pharmacy Daily's issue from 27 Apr 16 To see the full newsletter, see the embedded issue below or CLICK HERE to download Pharmacy Daily from 27 Apr 16
