THE Federal Court has ordered a
company called Homeopathy Plus
and its director Frances Sheffield to
pay fines of $138,000 for making
“false or misleading representations
about the effectiveness of the
whooping cough vaccine”.
The ACCC said it brought the case
because there was a real risk that
consumers might be influenced
by statements on the company’s
website to the effect that the
pertussis vaccine was ineffective,
as well as claims that homeopathic
treatments or products are a safe
alternative.
The offending statements were
also ordered to be withdrawn.
ACCC commissioner Sarah
Court confirmed that consumer
protection issues in the health
and medical sectors are a current
enforcement priority for the ACCC.The above article was sent to subscribers in Pharmacy Daily's issue from 15 Oct 15 To see the full newsletter, see the embedded issue below or CLICK HERE to download Pharmacy Daily from 15 Oct 15
