National Credentialing Program

THE Australian Pharmacy
Council (APC) has confirmed that a
national Credentialing Program for
Advanced Practice Pharmacists will
roll out in Jun this year, following a
successful pilot program.
The program will independently
evaluate pharmacists against
the Advanced Pharmacy Practice
Framework (APPF) and award a
recognised independent credential.
It will act to inform the public
of the competence of advancing
pharmacists.
The APC carried out the pilot
program to evaluate a process of
recognition of pharmacists who are
advancing in their practice against
the framework (PD 02 Nov 2015).
APC president Debra Rowett
hailed the program as “a robust
and independent process to assure
the competence and recognition
of pharmacists in their pursuit
of excellence through practice,
leadership, education, research and
collaboration to optimise outcomes
from medicines to meet the public’s
health care needs”.
Associate Professor Ian Coombes,
Chair of the APC Advanced Practice
Credentialing Committee said,
“For professional development,
there is no better way to identify
your practice strengths and
also your opportunities for
further development, through
an independent evaluation and
feedback process against a national
framework.
“Your portfolio is evaluated on
your evidence of professional
impact, not your reputation.”
