QUEENSLAND pharmacists can commence their full scope of practice journey with the newly launched Prescribing Hormonal Contraceptives Course by the Australasian College of Pharmacy.
The CPD-accredited training structure has an online module, virtual workshop and an objective structured clinical examination.
Announced earlier this year by the state's Minister for Health Shannon Fentiman, hormonal contraception is one of 17 acute conditions within the Queensland Community Pharmacy Scope of Practice Pilot, where trained community pharmacists may autonomously prescribe.
Chief Pharmacist Suzanna Nash who launched the course said, "we encourage Queensland pharmacists to enrol in the training and, on successful completion, be ready to provide these much-needed services to women from Jul this year onwards".
The College's core focus is on the advancement of the pharmacy profession across Australia, including pharmacy assistants.
In Mar, the College had launched the first QCPP-approved training for pharmacy assistants to gain an understanding of the Queensland pilot and their role in the delivery of these services (PD 13 Mar).
"We encourage Queensland pharmacy assistants to join their pharmacist colleagues in providing hormonal contraception services in their community pharmacy," commented Nash. JG
