THE mylife YpsoPump system is now being launched in Australia, creating a new compact and lightweight option for Australian patients diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes (T1D) who manage their diabetes with an insulin pump.
With the changes in the distribution arrangement for insulin pump consumables, pharmacists will now have a much more involved role in supporting people who use insulin pump therapy, in terms of providing advice and consumables.
The Pharmacy Guild recommends that pharmacists be able to:
* Identify the different components of an insulin pump and how they work
* Describe the clinical benefits of insulin pump therapy to people with diabetes
* Describe benefits of a pharmacy providing pump consumables
* Explain the recommended frequency of changing infusion sets and reservoirs
* Identify people that may benefit from referral to an endocrinologist or diabetes educator for an insulin pump
* Identify common problems experienced with insulin pumps and their consumables
Ypsomed Australia gm James Mayjor said, "The mylife YpsoPump has also been designed to be intuitive and easy to operate.
"The pump has a touchscreen with an icon-based menu, much like a smartphone, so there is a certain familiarity to it -- even when you're using it for the first time."
