New malaria drug

THE European Medicines Agency has recommended the approval of a new malaria treatment, Eurartesim. The fixed combination drug consists of dihydroartemisinin and piperaquine phosphate and intended for the treatment of uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria in adults, children and infants aged 6 months or over and weighing 5 kg or more.
