New statin guidelines

The American College of Cardiology has released new guidelines around cardiovascular risk, which could double the number of Americans taking statins. As well as those at high risk of a heart attack or stroke, the new recommendations suggest patients with a 7.5% risk of a cardiovascular incident over the next decade would also be prescribed statins - versus current guidelines where the threshold is a 20% probablility.
