Three New Zealand nurses
based in Waitako Hospital were
suspended from work last week for
failing to comply with a directive
from the Waikato District Health
Board (WDHB) that all hospital
staff working in a clinical area must
be vaccinated against influenza or
wear facemasks.
The first NZ health board to adopt
the stringent rules, WDHB has
defended its position after strong
criticism from several union groups
which have labelled the move to
stand the nurses down as “heavyhanded”
