Bannister Law abandons legal case.
Edgewell Personal Care, the manufacturer of Banana Boat sunscreens, has welcomed a decision today by legal firm Bannister Law to drop a proposed class action relating to the company’s aerosol sunscreens.
Banana Boat had categorically refuted the claims, stating that results of tests conducted on behalf of the law firm were “entirely inconsistent with the testing that has been conducted at independent, reputable labs in accordance with the Australian mandatory standards”.
The suspension of legal action follows a Therapeutic Goods Administration review of sunscreens sold in Australia, which earlier this week found “no compliance deficiencies” and confirmed SPF claims on aerosol sunscreens were accurate.
Bannister confirmed it was investigating a class action late last year over claims the Banana Boat products were incorrectly labelled, urging consumers who had become burnt after applying the sunscreens to register to participate in the case.
