PSA looks to the future – “Pharmacists in 2023” discussion paper released
PSA National President Dr Shane Jackson has just unveiled the Society’s vision for the future of pharmacy in Australia, with a discussion paper launched at the PSA18 conference in Sydney which was opened by Health Minister Greg Hunt this morning.
Jackson said Pharmacists in 2023 would “empower the pharmacy workforce across healthcare, ensuring pharmacists are embedded wherever medicines are used, equipped with skills and opportunities to enhance community access to health services, and enabled through appropriate recognition and remuneration”.
He said initially PSA had envisaged a ten year plan, but overwhelming feedback from the profession had reflected a need for more urgent change in order for pharmacists to “retain their best and brightest and be truly regarded as medicines experts”.
“As the peak national body for pharmacists, PSA has therefore committed to delivering significant change for the profession within five years,” Jackson said.
The views of PSA members, consumers and key stakeholders to inform the delivery of an action plan by the end of the year are being sought, with submissions invited by Friday 07 September 2018.
