THE Pharmacy Board of Australia (PBA) is seeking public and stakeholder views on pharmacist prescribing and has published a discussion paper this week.
The discussion paper includes the outcomes of a prescribing forum the Board held last year and a range of questions to help the pharmacy profession further explore its role in prescribing.
Questions in the discussion paper cover topics that include:
models of prescribing that can be pursued by the pharmacy profession, including the supporting evidence
identification of gaps in evidence that may need to be addressed by the profession, and
issues that need to be considered and addressed to assess the regulatory need for an endorsement for prescribing of scheduled medicines.
The discussion paper is intended to stimulate discussion and collaboration among stakeholders and highlight where further work is needed.
It is published on the PBA website under Current Consultations or you can CLICK HERE.
Previously the PBA had published a report about the outcomes of the pharmacy prescribing forum, which it facilitated to help participants consider and discuss the need and opportunities for expanding pharmacist involvement in prescribing.
The PBA also published a background paper and two other reports about prescribing commissioned by the Board on the Professional practice issues page.
Closing date for feedback on the paper is Mon 15 Apr 2019.
The Board will review the feedback and a report will be published along with submissions at a later date.
